The Seminary Community was delighted to welcome Fr Ihor Kozankewcyz who leads Caritas Drohobych in Ukraine on Thursday 12th October 2023. Fr Ihor is a Greek Catholic Priest who lives and works with Caritas (a partner of Trócaire) in Western Ukraine and he is visiting Maynooth, together with his wife, to participate in an English Language Course in the Divine Word School of English. Fr Ihor joined us for Mass and preached a very moving homily about his work with Caritas in the context of the war in Ukraine, reminding us that prayer is the most powerful weapon at the disposal of men and women, and asking us to continue to pray for an end to hostilities in his country and in other war-ravaged parts of the world. We are grateful to Noreen Gumbo of Trócaire for introducing us to Fr Ihor and to Wiktor Siemionkowski (1st Year Seminarian, Archdiocese of Tuam) for doing an excellent job in translating Fr Ihor's words into English during the homily.
