International Students

An International Reputation

The Pontifical University at Maynooth College has a global reputation dating back to 1785. It currently has a truly diverse community, with staff and students represented from across the world. Our degrees are recognised across the world.

International Students & EU

The Pontifical University welcomes applications from both international & EU undergraduate and postgraduate candidates.

The language of instruction in the Faculty of Theology is English. Both EU and international students must have a knowledge of the English language that enables them to take part actively in lectures and group work.

Why Study at Maynooth?

Maynooth is the perfect environment for the budding Theologian! Our unique, historic and beautiful campus is the ideal location for reflection and learning. Maynooth is Ireland’s only University town which means you can escape the hassle of long city commutes or you can use the handy bus and rail links to the Campus.

The Pontifical University has close links with the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. The two universities share the same campus (St Patrick’s College being on the south campus) and co-operate in a number of important academic programmes. The campus is also the seat of the National Seminary.

During your time in Maynooth we will support and assist you in your life as a student.

We have a crèche on campus. Other supports include counselling, academic support, disability/access office, career development centre, and a medical centre.

Maynooth Town

The town of Maynooth is situated in north County Kildare. It is close to the borders of Counties Dublin and Meath. It is 15 miles/25 km. west of Dublin city centre, just off the N4/M4, the main Dublin to Sligo/Galway road. Maynooth is approximately 7 miles/12 km from the N3 – the main Dublin/Cavan road, and is approximately 13 miles/22km from the N7 – the main Dublin to Limerick/Cork road.

Today, Maynooth preserves much of its rural ambience and provides easy access to large tracts of peaceful countryside. At the same time, it is within easy reach of Dublin and is close to the high-technology industrial parks on the western edge of the city. It is home to a vibrant local community and offers students and others abundant opportunities to enjoy a busy and varied social life.

Accommodation

The Residence Office in NUI Maynooth also cater for the students of the Pontifical University. There are nearly 900 students currently housed “on campus”. All prospective students may apply through the Residence Office for campus housing. The email address for the Residence Office is: residence.office@mu.ie

The Residence Office also compiles lists of “off campus” accommodation with rooms available in traditional “digs” accommodation, self-catering in family homes in Maynooth, and in private rented apartments and houses.
