Biography

Father Thomas G. Casey is a Jesuit priest of the Irish Province of the Society of Jesus. Before starting to lecture at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth in 2013, he was professor of philosophy for 10 years at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (2002-2012), during which time he was also a Visiting Professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (2008-2009), served as Director of the Cardinal Bea Centre for Judaic Studies (2009-2011), and in addition was Dean of the Faculty of Missiology at the Gregorian University (2011-2012).

He is the author of the monograph Better than Babylon (New York/Mahwah, NJ: Paulist Press, 2012). He is due to publish the biography Wisdom at the Crossroads: the life and thought of Michael Paul Gallagher SJ with Paulist Press in spring of 2018. He is the co-editor of Paul's Jewish Matrix (Rome: Gregorian & Biblicum Press / New Jersey: Paulist Press, 2011), the co-author of From Fear to Serenity (New York/Mahwah, NJ: Paulist Press, 2011), the author of Music of Pure Love (Springfield, Illinois: Templegate, 2006), the author of Life and Soul (Springfield, Illinois: Templegate, 2005), the author of Humble and Awake (Springfield, Illinois: Templegate, 2004).

He has a Ph.D. in philosophy from University College Dublin, an M.A. in philosophy from the Sorbonne (University of Paris I), a licentiate in theology from the Weston School of Theology, Massachusetts, a licentiate in philosophy from the Milltown Institute, a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from University College Dublin, a Bachelor in Divinity (Hons) from the Milltown Insitute. He has also studied theology at Harvard Divinity School and at the University of Münster in Germany.
