Date

June 13th - June 20th

Location

International Choristers Sing Haydn at Maynooth

Maynooth Campus will host its second Berkshire Choral International ‘Singing Week’ from 13-20 June this year. The Massachusetts-based group brings 110 choral enthusiasts to Maynooth for a week of intensive training and rehearsal.  The festival culminates in a choral performance of Haydn’s The Creation, under the baton of choral maestro and conductor, Julian Wachner.  It takes place on Saturday, 20 June at 8.00 p.m. in the College Chapel, St Patrick’s College, Maynooth.  Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.

Debi Kennedy, President and CEO, says Berkshire Choral International is a not-for-profit educational institution founded in 1982 that aims to provide amateur singers with professional standard choral immersion experiences. “We are delighted to be back in Maynooth for the second time.  Last year was a real success for us.  The performance of The Creation in the beautiful College Chapel promises to be a memorable occasion.”

For Maynooth Campus Conference & Accommodation, this year’s ‘Singing Week’ is a key event.  According to manager, Bill Tinley, it builds on the success of last year and establishes the university campus as major venue for choral groups.  “The Berkshire Choral International programme in 2014 was a cultural highlight.  We’re really pleased that they are bringing their enthusiasm and passion here again this year.  It’s a great fit for the campus and it’s an important economic boost for the town and local area.  And it adds another bit of colour to a busy summer of music that will see Maynooth host the tenth Irish Salsa Congress and the Leinster Fleadh.”

Tickets for the concert are available through Ticketmaster.

Details of a special offer guided tour, refreshments and concert ticket are available at www.visitmaynooth.com.  Spaces are limited.

Background:

Founded in 1982, Berkshire Choral International’s ‘Singing Weeks’ are a highlight in many choral enthusiasts’ calendar of events. The aim is to provide amateur singers with an opportunity of professional-level choral immersion.  Based in Sheffield, Massachusetts, Berkshire Choral International has been running week-long choral camps for amateur singers all around the world for the past 33 years.   Each year, an historical and culturally rich, national or international location is chosen to host the ‘Singing Week’. Participants are urged to secure their places as early as possible due to the constant high demand on places. Throughout the weeklong programme knowledgeable amateurs can expect to study, rehearse, and perform masterpieces of the choral repertoire under the direction of world-class conductors, with professional symphony orchestras.
